Work: Furugaan mosque site inspection

A couple of pictures taken from my camera during a site visit to upcoming Furugan mosque in the capital city of Male'. The first floor slab works have finished and superstructure above the first floor slab has now roughly begun. The first thing of notice is that the columns were not getting proper cover while the starter concrete was set. This is either because inadequate cover was given when the ground floor columns were finished or because the reinforcement rods were allowed to move with the wind after the starter concrete was set. Several columns with this defect were observed and contractor was asked to rectify the matter by using cover blocks of during concreting of the columns.

The minaret has been built to the first floor lintel level and the first level of the minaret is now complete. Its rumored (I've still not seen the drawings) that this Minaret is humongous, in comparision to the built up area of the mosque

The next thing of note on site was that two starter concrete blocks had cracks in them due to inadequate cover and lack of grout while setting the concrete. These blocks were asked to be redone after the original defective blocks were demolished.

Another minor problem that was noticed was nails being driven into the concrete through out the built up area. Some of these nails were used to support formworks of the structures and had not been removed after the removal of formwork.

Of very minor importance to my workl, but a huge blunder in part of people planning the town (or city), by conviniently placing the mosque site adjacent to a garbage disposal area. Lovely sight, that!
